Your life, or the life of someone you love. The memory of a family. The book your knowledge deserves. I write it for you or with you: I interview, research, shape, write, edit and design the book. In English or in the Spanish of your region, following the ethics and consent framework of the Oral History Society.
Life stories
A book in your own voice. We meet, I record, and I write. There are three options, depending on the hours of interview and the number of people interviewed: £1,950, £3,450 and £4,950. Each includes the finished book in digital form, with its cover. Books written in English are copyedited by a native English editor, and that is included in the price. The print version and the copies are quoted separately.
Not sure yet? Start with a First Conversation: one recorded conversation, of up to 90 minutes, followed by an edited extract and a written proposal for the book. £390, credited in full if the book is commissioned.

Books for experts
You know your subject and want a book that shows it. I write it in your voice, under your name, from £8,500, or we write it together: you write or record, I shape and rewrite, from £4,700.
Both start with the Book Blueprint: two meetings and, in writing, the focus, the reader, the contents and a fixed quote. £495, credited if the book goes ahead within 30 days. Books in English are copyedited by a native English editor.
Spanish editing
For authors, translators, charities and organisations with text in Spanish.
Four layers, from the deepest to the finest. Each text needs one or more, and I tell you which before I start.
1. Reading report. I read the whole text and give you a written diagnosis: what works and what does not, where the story or the argument loses coherence or pace, and what to rewrite first. Then we discuss it in a conversation of up to 90 minutes. Up to 30,000 words, £350; up to 60,000, £500; up to 90,000, £650. For a long text, substantial editing always starts with a reading report, credited if the edit is commissioned within 30 days of the report.
2. Substantial editing. I work inside the whole text: the order, the argument, what is missing and what is not needed, and I rewrite the passages that need it. £35 per 1,000 words.
3. Copyediting. Clearer, better-paced sentences, without changing the structure. £20 per 1,000 words.
4. Proofreading. The final check: spelling, punctuation and typography. £12 per 1,000 words.
Rates are calculated on the words of the original text. Minimum £90.
Book design & publishing
I design the interior, the cover and prepare the ebook. For print, a trusted typesetter prepares the file for the printer of your choice, and I check it before it goes to print.
If the book is for sale, it can carry an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) under the Árbol imprint.
Árbol prints only the copies that are ordered: no stock, no waste. Quoted with your book.
Who writes
Árbol Books is the English side of Árbol Ediciones, my independent imprint in London. I am Ángeles Reyes: I listen, write, edit and design. I am a member of the Oral History Society. Your recordings, transcripts and drafts are yours and confidential, and my part in your project is made public only if and as far as you wish. For final English copyediting, I work with professionals I trust.
